Simple as it looks, face masks are commonly used incorrectly by the public, which may affect its effectiveness in protecting the wearer from getting infected with COVID-19.
Here’s how to properly wear and dispose a mask[1]:
- Wash your hands with hand sanitizer or soap and water before putting on a mask
- Put on the mask, ensuring that it covers your nose, mouth and chin. Make sure that the blue-coloured side faces outward, with the metal strip placed above the nose.
- Pinch the metal strip gently against the nose bridge to form a tight seal
- When removing the mask, make sure to only touch the ear loops
While face masks play an important role in preventing the spread of COVID-19, individuals should make sure to continue exhibiting good personal hygiene even when wearing a mask, such as frequently washing your hands, facing away from others when coughing or sneezing and observing social distancing guidelines.
